One of our favorite looks for Spring 2012 are all the beautiful pastel hues out there these days. Whether it be a single solid color or in a soft floral pattern, it is a look just about anyone feels beautiful in. A gentle pastel pink Norma Kamali high waist skirt does the trick, as does a pale blue linen Yves Saint Laurent button front jumper dress. Perfect for going from day right into night. One of our new favorites is a Mr. Blackwell floral print cotton spaghetti strap dress with matching caplet. Coming from the man who critiqued what women wore, you know this dress is sure to be a hit. Any way you choose to wear this look, it’s sure to brighten the day.

For the Carnegie Hall Medal Of Excellence Gala in New York honoring Bill Cunningham Sarah Jessica Parker wears a vintage Oscar de la Renta deep metal grey silk bustle back strapless gown from FROCK. She not only loved the style and look of the dress, but also wanted to wear a design by one of her co-chairs for the evening, Oscar de la Renta himself.

Without a doubt we think she look absolutely stunning and just about stole the show, although the high-light of the evening certainly was the speech given by Bill Cunningham. A class act, New York City institution and a man like no other.

HBO’s “Girls” Star Allison Williams wears FROCK on Today Show

HBO’s Girls is one of the most anticipated TV series to premiere this season and we couldn’t be more excited that it’s finally here! This morning one of its bright stars, Allison Williams, went on the Today Show to promote the show wearing none other than Valentino from FROCK!! Williams looked fantastic in the vintage pink halter/shoulder strap dress.

Though the show revolves around four women living in the city, this may be the only similarity it shares to Sex and the City. It’s more like the harsh realities of being a 20-something girl in the city and realizing life isn’t just a round of cosmos with Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda. NEW ERA at DIOR: Raf Simons Standing in the Shadow of Giants

Upon hearing the news that Raf Simons is taking his place as head designer at DIOR, it made us stop and think. There has been an abundance of great talent that has passed through this legendary french design house. Starting with the first, the namesake, CHRISTIAN DIOR, and then the brief, but brilliant reign of YVES SAINT LAURENT, and later on the appointment of GIANFRANCO FERRE. Each a genius, they embody the ideal of the “head designer”; focused, at times outrageous, but always masterful with their designs. As the next designer approaches the throne of such a well loved and respected house, we hope he takes a cue from history, while also possessing a strong vision to see DIOR through its next incarnation.

Cut it Out

We all know there’s a fine line between sexy and showing too much skin. Thankfully one of the hottest trends this season gets it just right! Designers such as Balmain and Alexander Wang are just some of the names cutting it out! Whether a keyhole or side panels are your thing, cut outs are the perfect look for summer!

Actress/designer Chloe Sevigny recently opted for a cut out back at the premiere of HBO’s new comedy “Girls”. This multi-color look from her own collection for Opening Ceremony reminded us of a certain Ungaro number here at FROCK. From the long sleeves to the eye-catching print (an Ungaro staple) and the cut out back, we can’t help but notice that Ms. Sevigny is taking a page from one of the masters.

New Creative Direction at LEONARD: Simoens Out

Maxime Simoens has parted ways with the parisian fashion house LEONARD after only one season. It seems Maxime will focus on his namesake ready to wear line that shows during Couture. When he was first appointed at LEONARD, he said “It was a bit old, in my opinion. I really want to give it sophistication and modernity.” With his Fall collection for LEONARD, he definitely was trying to appeal to a younger audience. We would have suggested he go through the LEONARD archives. LEONARD has always made bold prints that are refined and yet buoyant, and their vintage silhouettes are perfectly suited for both the mature and the young. Below are some vintage LEONARD pieces available on the FROCK website that are chic, but with a hint of fun and whimsy. Simoens should have looked through these photos for inspiration.

Barney’s Celebrates Alber Elbaz’s 10 Years at Lanvin

Earlier this week Barney’s unveiled their latest window displays! This time, the store devoted their displays to Alber Elbaz’s 10 year anniversary at the house of Lanvin. Both Barney’s and Alber are known to create quite the visual impact, so it’s no surprise that when you combine the two, you get parachutes, explosions, and an 8 foot tall Mr.Elbaz. The NY Times’ Eric Wilson describes them as, “One window on Madison Avenue shows a brick wall at the moment of an explosion, with chrome-painted bricks flying in all directions, but mostly toward three parachute dresses from the designer’s spring 2008 collection. Another shows a wooden floor imploding beneath a black gown on a rotating display. In between is an eight-foot-tall chrome-painted sculpture of Mr. Elbaz, holding a flower. Is it supposed to remind us that Mr. Elbaz revitalized a century-old label by exploding the clichés of the house? Or about mythologizing a designer who is important to Barneys? Or did that 2008 collection go down like a ton of bricks?”. You’ll have to come up with your own answers to these questions when you visit Barney’s on Madison Ave.!

What Would Carrie Wear? … at 15?

Through multiple hook ups, break-ups, episodes, and even movies we have grown to love and admire Carrie Bradshaw as a fashion icon, but that was in her 30′s and 40′s … what about Carrie Bradshaw at 15? The CW’s new show, The Carrie Diaries, will soon answer this question, but from the looks of it on set, she was always quite the fashionista.

Young Bradshaw, played by AnnaSophia Robb, braved the streets of New York to recreate the iconic opening credit scene, where Sarah Jessica Parker gets splashed by a speeding cab.This time instead of the fabulous pink tutu, Carrie is casually walking down the streets of Manhattan in a 1980s sequin Scaasi cocktail dress like our very own at FROCK!

We can’t wait to see what other amazing looks will make it to the show once it airs on the CW in May!
