Jean Paul Gaultier channeled the late Amy Winehouse for his Spring 2012 Couture Collection. Accessorized with Beehives and Cigarettes, the models evoked the recently departed singer’s penchant for 60s Retro and 80s British Punk. Gauliter balanced the attitude and bold celebrity personae with his design innovations. He reimagined the jacket and its construction, creating new silhouettes like a “trench coat ball gown” or a “blazer shawl”. Gaultier is one of the few remaining designers offering something new on the runway, articulated with a sense of whimsy and a nod to pop culture.
