FAVORITE FROCK OF THE DAY: Vintage ANNE KLEIN COUTURE Gold Tribal Necklace
Tuesday, December 29, 2009

One of the trends we have been seeing are chunky, ornate necklaces. Pieces from Roberta Freeman, Alexis Bittar, and NOIR have been causing a stir on celebrities and in the pages of fashion mags. It seems to be signaling the return of the statement jewelry piece, and not just for black tie and red carpets.
The beauty of these embellished and grand pieces is that you can wear them in the day time; hidden beneath the collar of a white dress shirt, or thrown on top of a black tank, they bring high fashion into your daily wardrobe life. We are happy to see this happening, and encourage women to use their jewelry, and all accessories, to add a little visual excitement during these cold, dull winter months.
In honor of this, our favorite FROCK of the day is a Vintage Anne Klein Couture Gold Tribal Necklace – no better way to make a statement!!!

HOLIDAY WARDROBE GUIDE: Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Calvin Klein, and more!
Saturday, December 19, 2009

During this time of year, we are all flooded with invites and bombarded with familial obligations.

There are office holiday parties. There are family dinners. Friend’s Parties. And New Years Eve!
This is the time when your wardrobe goes into overdrive, and you have to be prepared, and take advantage of all the fashion moments to be had!
Here are our vintage suggestions on what to wear to each type of holiday event:

HOLIDAY OFFICE PARTY -
If the boss and coworkers are there, you don’t want to push the envelope to far, but you do want to represent the holiday spirit. Separates are a great option, and go easily from day to evening. This 80s Calvin Klein red silk blouse with slight ruffle would be perfect with either plain black skinny pants, or a fitted pencil skirt. If you are really feeling the XMAS spirit, throw over the 80s Yves Saint Laurent Plaid Wool Blazer; it makes you look festive, yet professional!

PARTY TIME – So, your friend is throwing a holiday fete, and you are seizing the moment to dress up! This 80s Adolfo black Santana knit dress with rhinestone detailing is perfect. First of all, the bling is already built into the dress, so no need to fuss with accessories. Second, it is a comfortable knit. You can drink, sit, and dance with ease! And lastly, it is just a super fun dress!

FAMILY DINNER/PARTY – When the family is involved, I find it best to go classic. This 60s Teal Traina black wool dress is so chic. It is flattering and youthful without being to revealing. It is sure to please any discerning mothers out there!

You can layer on a statement necklace, like the 80s Rhinestone and Faux Ruby one below, to add shimmer to your understated elegance.

New Years Eve! - The countdown, the champagne, the random hugging and kissing – so many reasons to love the last night of the year!! So, depending on what you have planned, your outfit can vary. For a night out at a bar, or a friends house, why not just dark denim and a sparkly top. The 80s Yves Saint Laurent black and silver sequin top below would be perfect!

If you are going to black tie affair, I personally love this 80s Chanel Red Pleated Gown! It makes a bold statement! It is classic, but still fun!

Whatever you wear, just make sure to enjoy the holiday seasons!
Eat, Drink and Be Merry!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM FROCK! AND BEST WISHES FOR A FABULOUS NEW YEAR!

FAVORITE FROCK of the Day: VINTAGE LOUIS VUITTON BAG
Friday, December 11, 2009

Our Favorite Frock of the Day is not a FROCK, but a bag! We have recently acquired this unique piece from LOUIS VUITTON. We had it authenticated by LOUIS VUITTON, but they could not figure out what collection it was from. They said that it must have been a special request piece; a special design made for one of their clietns. They dated the work to the late 1970s. It is a rare piece from this luxury brand. It can be worn as a shoulder bag, with a adjustable leather strap. Or it can be carried as a clutch, with the strap tucked inside. There are a series of zipper pockets inside, creating a lot of interior room. A truly remarkable piece! A chance to own a distinct piece, this bag is great for a collector, or great as a holiday gift!

FROCK HEARTS PATRICK KELLY: Vintage Patrick Kelly
Saturday, October 24, 2009

African American fashion designer Patrick Kelly was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi. In a short amount of time, this Southern boy who once worked as a window dresser at Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Boutique without pay, took Paris by storm. He became the first American member of the Chambre Syndicale du Prêt-à-Porter (the governing body of the prestigious French ready-to-wear industry).

During the mid to late 1980s, Kelly found his greatest success. He began by selling dresses on the street and working as a costumer for the nightclub Le Palais. His Paris designs were soon carried in Henri Bendel, Bloomingdale’s, and Bergdorf Goodman. And celebrities such as Cicely Tyson, Bette Davis, Grace Jones, and Isabella Rosellini were among his clients.

Some of Kelly’s most memorable pieces were a mass of multicolored buttons and grosgrain ribbons clustered together. Kelly also created works using controversial images drawn from popular culture, bringing racial stereotyping to the forefront.

Although he produced collections only from 1985 until his death from AIDS in 1990 at the age of 35, he made a significant contribution to fashion. He injected wit and life into his garments, which is an ideal carried on by designers today.

Here are our favorite Patrick Kelly pieces:
